Prepare for a Smooth Recovery: Plan Ahead and Be Stress-Free

It is heavily encouraged that you make all your arrangements beforehand so the days to follow your procedure are as stress-free and relaxing as possible. You will experience some soreness and should anticipate some downtime from your daily activities.

Immediately Following Your Surgery

Every tummy tuck procedure is customized to the patient's particular body type and needs. As a result, recuperation will greatly depend on the length and location of the incisions, the type of tummy tuck that is performed, the necessary degree of correction, as well as other factors such as general state of one's health.

Your incisions will be carefully dressed and wrapped in a compression garment (binder) or bandage.

The compression garment will provide support and keep swelling down, as your body heals. Most cosmetic procedures will require that one or more surgical drains be left in place for the first several days. This drainage tube eliminates excess fluid, which otherwise could collect in the abdomen and cause complications. Your abdomen will be very tight and sore for several days. This is absolutely normal. At your discretion, antibiotics may be prescribed to guard against infection, as well as pain medication to help you cope with any discomfort.

Returning Home

With any cosmetic procedure, you want to be certain you have someone take you to and from the operating facility, and stay with you for at least the first night. By ensuring the help of someone trusted, they are able to help with any tasks and watch over you. Most patients choose to go home after their cosmetic procedures. Those who fly in from out of town, or perhaps simply prefer to stay overnight for observation can do so at our facility or at one of the local post-surgery care facilities, for a reasonable charge.

Dr. Repta will call you the night of your surgery, to check up and ask how you're feeling. Within a day or two you will come in for a follow-up visit. Dr. Repta and his staff are utterly dedicated to making every step of your surgery as comfortable and easy as is feasibly possible. Dr. Repta makes himself available to answer questions that may come up after your procedure, in addition to during your recovery process.
